Superintendent’s Report

Dr. Clint Baggett reminded the parents that any food brought onto the campus of the Haleyville schools has to be in a container that does not depict a commercial label, i.e., McDonald’s or Burger King, etc.

  1. Summer has flown by and our school bells are ready to ring.  Teachers will return next Wednesday morning and students’ first day will begin at 8:00 Monday, August 7.  The halls and rooms are polished, the grass is cut, new lines have been painted in the parking lots, and several rooms received a fresh coat of paint at all schools.  The high school will finish their open house tonight and the elementary school will host students and parents next Thursday night.  We hope this will curtail the traffic backup on the first student day.  I want to encourage all to take advantage of the Tax Holiday Weekend.  While there are some restrictions, the vast majority of school clothes and supplies can be purchased tax-free.  The weekend of August 4, 5, and 6 will allow you to purchase items such as clothes, shoes, caps, belts, paper, pencils, pens, folders, etc. without paying the 8% tax.  Also, I encourage all to “Shop Haleyville First.”

  2. Our new Athletic Complex is just about ready for use.  The contractors are putting the finishing touches on several areas.  The State Inspection is scheduled for the morning of Friday, August 5 and hopefully the coaches can start moving that afternoon.  It has been a long awaited facility and it is something that will carry on the “Haleyville Tradition” of “Lion Pride.”  I would like to thank the Haleyville Lions Club for their generous donation toward the purchase of the new, state of art, football lockers for the Varsity and Jr Varsity dressing rooms.  Hopefully, in the near future, we can hold an open house for this facility.

  3. I need to clear up some confusion and hopefully squelch rumors about the damage to the baseball and softball facilities as well as the Career Tech Center last April.  We are working with the adjuster and the state insurance department almost daily on a settlement.  As of this date, we have not received any reimbursement for the damaged areas.  We have received the approval for roof damage on some buildings, but definitely not all.  Just as soon as we possibly can, we will start rebuilding.  We guarantee that the two fields and facilities will be better than they were before the storm.

  4. In behalf of the Board and me personally, condolences are extended to the Mrs. Ella Wayne McNutt and Mrs. Beth Frazier on the death of their son and brother, Edwin.  Mrs. McNutt was a long time teacher/administrator with our system and Mrs. Frazier is a current first grade teacher.

  5. This Board held a Working Session on July 17.  Mrs. Manasco was not in attendance.  We discussed the Proposed Middle School, the Athletic Complex project, along with the system’s short and long-term goals and objectives.  No action was taken.

  6. The next session of the Haleyville City Board of Education is planned for August 22 at 7:00 pm in the Choral Music Room of Haleyville High School.  A Working Session will preceed.
